Is a Rottweiler a good family dog?

Despite their imposing size and sometimes clumsy demeanour, Rottweilers possess a unique ability to form deep bonds with their owners, regardless of age or physical ability. From young families to elderly individuals and even those with disabilities, the loyalty and respect exhibited by these dogs towards their humans is unparalleled in my experience behind the camera lens.

What is the temperament of a Rottweiler?

However, as I’ve delved into the world of photographing these magnificent creatures both in the studio and outdoors, I have discovered a softer side to their temperament that is truly endearing. Contrary to popular belief, Rottweilers crave love and affection just like any other breed. The number of cuddles shared with these loyal companions is nothing short of remarkable; their desire for human connection is evident in every wag of their tail. As I’ve spent time capturing their essence through my lens, I’ve come to realise that beneath the robust exterior lies a gentle soul yearning for companionship.

The unique experience of engaging with Rottweilers during photoshoots has also unveiled another intriguing aspect of their temperament – their unmistakable Rottie chat. This vocalisation, initially unnerving to those unfamiliar with it, adds an extra layer of charm and personality to these majestic dogs. The symphony of grumbles and barks they produce while receiving attention is not only entertaining but also heartwarming once you become accustomed to it.

Is a Rottweiler a good family dog?

Here is an abstract from the book that I am writing 

Hello, my name is Betty, and I am just 14 months old. I’m the troublemaker of the family, ruling the roost in our house. My mum loves me, but she often calls me a troublemaker. She rescued me because nobody else wanted me during a terrible time in my life that I’ll never forget. Perhaps that’s why I can be naughty sometimes.

I feel lost at times, remembering the rejection I faced before finding a home with my mum. Despite being labeled as a troublemaker, all I really want is love and security. The scars of my past loneliness sometimes manifest in my mischievous behaviour. Though small and young, and a very short time of my life, I do carry the weight of abandonment on my tiny shoulders.

But amidst my antics and mischief lies a longing for acceptance and understanding from those around me. Each day is a journey towards healing from the pain of being unwanted. In this big world, all I seek is compassion and patience as I navigate through life as a young pup with an old soul.

Despite only weighing 38 kilos, I am always excited to make new friends when I go out for walks with my mum. Other dogs seem happy to see me and say hello, and I love the chance to play and socialise. Chasing after the ball is one of my favourite activities, bringing me joy as I retrieve it for my mom. My friend Ralph has taught me valuable lessons about kindness and gentleness towards others, including how to treat new people with respect. While some may judge me based on my size and appearance, I am just a friendly dog eager to make connections in the world.
