Renovating the JBS Dog Photography Studio
A studio designed for Dog Photography opens in Norfolk
Covid-19 has been a bittersweet pill for Just Big Smiles. Two weeks before the COVID-19 lockdown, the scaffolding went up but unfortunately due to COVID 19 the replacement roof was delayed. Before COVID-19 our plan was to replace the roof and then over the course of 2020 and 2021 and in-between our weddings, our plan was to work on the studio and launch in winter 2021.

However as we all know, Covid-19 struck and for several weeks during lockdown at the Just Big Smiles Wedding Photography HQ we were busy helping our brides to re-arrange their dates for 2021 and doing a little doorstep photography to spread a little cheer. Once the restrictions eased, we were lucky that the roofers were able to put on the new roof and we could get all the materials we needed to complete the project.

Although a lot of our 2020 weddings had been postponed it meant we had more time than originally planned to work on the studio and accelerate the launch of JBS Dog Photography by around 12 months.
We built all the internal walls and fully insulated them.

Now plaster was tricky as it was hard to come by, but Karl and I are very resourceful and we managed to get both a plasterer and plaster. By the middle of July the new window and door was in, the plastering was complete and we started to put the new ceiling in.

By the end of July the electrician had paid us a visit and completed all the electrical work and we were now outside getting the pathway and patio prepared with help from Clean and Green Landscaping.

On the hottest day of the year and many litres of water later we laid the pathway to the studio entrance.

By August 31st and over 12 months earlier than planned, the JBS Dog Photography Studio was opened to the public. We have enough parking for 3 cars, and those who need wheelchair access can park right next to the path.

The Path is wide enough for a wheelchair, pram or for dancing on.

A nice big door to get into the studio with PIR lighting all the way down the path for those winter nights, oh and a water bowl for those thirsty dogs.

When you enter the studio you can use the NHS app to check-in, and sanitise your hands.

If you need the toilet then there is plenty of room and our posh tap tells you the temperature of the water.

When you wash your hands, we have paper towels and more sanitising stuff and spare gloves should you want them to keep you and us safe.

We have a Tassimo machine so you can help yourself to hot drinks

We also have chilled drinks if you are not a lover of hot drinks and yes that is correct Alcohol-free beer.
This is the makeup and tea station. The mirror is a touch screen and fully illuminated, and there is a microwave should you want to heat anything up, for example if you having any newborn photography with Arienne and need to heat some milk.

This is where we take the pictures, we stand approximately 6 metres away from you and that grey wall is 5 metres wide.

When we take the pictures, they automatically appear on the 42″ TV so all the time you can review the pictures from a safe distance. There is also an airconditioning unit which cools and heats, so the studio can always be at a constant temperature.
